Wild-harvested pine pollen powder rich in nutrients

What is Pine Pollen?
(Ancient Superfood with 200+ Nutrients)

Pine Pollen is considered a tonic herb and has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years.* Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic stated that Pine Pollen could “lighten the body, replenish qi, and prolong life span.”*1

While many species of Pine can be used, ours comes from the Masson Pine (Pinus massoniana), which has been used most extensively historically. The pollen is the tree’s male spore, which is life-giving and so contains highly absorbable phytonutrients linked to various areas of optimal health.*

Here is a quick glance of some of the many Pine Pollen benefits:

Healthy and Balanced Hormones*

Pine Pollen contains phytoandrogens — plant-based compounds that closely resemble human hormones like testosterone, DHEA, and androstenedione. These can interact with androgen receptors in the body, potentially helping to mimic or support natural testosterone activity.4*

Antioxidants, Combating Cellular Damage*

The antioxidants in Pine Pollen powder can help support the body’s cellular makeup and promote overall vitality and anti-aging.* Specifically, antioxidants can help neutralize free radicals, which often cause significant damage to the body.4*

Rich in Over 200 Bio-Active Phyto-Nutrients*

With a wide range of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, Pine Pollen can help support the immune system, cardiovascular system, cognitive health, organ detoxification, DNA health and more.* Pine Pollen powder is a great option to be used as a daily nutrient supplement.

Protects From Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals*

Pine Pollen can help combat xenoestrogens and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals that our environment is full of.* From BPA to Phthalates, PCBs to Dioxins, and so many more. This, more so than aging, is one reason that there are chronic health issues surrounding hormone health.*

Phytoandrogens for Hormonal Balance

Perhaps its biggest claim to fame, Pine Pollen is a significant source of phytoandrogens. These are not steroids, but instead all-natural plant compounds that can exert a beneficial influence even within the human hormone system.*

With all the natural co-factors and the small amounts of androgens, these will work with your body for adaptogenic effects.* These phytoandrogens have actually been found to connect with male hormone receptor sites in the human body.*

Gibberellins – Structurally very similar to androgens, these plant steroids jump-start the first stages of germination. Spray them on growing buds, and they will grow exponentially. Thus, they can mimic androgens in the body and stimulate androgen production.* They also appear to have a regulating action on the prostate.*

Brassinosteroids – Another essential element to plants, brassinosteroids are being used by plant growers as a highly efficient, broad-spectrum, safe plant growth regulator. Pine pollen powder contains many of the over 30 different kinds already identified.*

“My wife and I love the benefits from using Lost Empire Herbs pine pollen powder especially how it elevates our sense of well being. And, of course, the physical benefits speak for themselves. Occasionally taking 3 tablespoons before bed ALWAYS provides that ‘teenage morning magic’ that cannot be denied or ignored. We have always loved great morning nookie and at 75 & 74 respectively, we still do…! Thank you Lost Empire Herbs!” – Ron F.

Pine Pollen for Men: Testosterone & Vitality Support*

Pine Pollen powder is a powerful hormonal ally that can help boost male hormone levels when used consistently and correctly.*

Some early research suggested that Pine Pollen contains identical human hormones, such as naturally occurring testosterone, androstenedione, and DHEA.5 However, those may have been misidentified, and Pine Pollen only contains structurally similar plant hormones. In either case, for men Pine Pollen is definitely active on the human hormone system.

Testosterone levels typically start to decrease around age 30. This is when men begin to experience weight gain, muscle loss, thinning hair, moodiness, difficulty concentrating, loss of energy, and even diminished sexual function and reproductive health.

At the age of 30, it’s typical that testosterone levels begin to decrease, and by 40, about 45% of men are already deficient.

Testosterone Hormone Level by Age (1)

It’s great to be proactive in this area; that is where Pine Pollen for men comes in. If you’re over 30, you should consider adding Pine Pollen to your daily routine.

This can help slow the effects aging brings.* Supplementing with Pine Pollen benefits the following areas:

Ignited & Elevated Sexual Performance*

Balanced Mood & Emotional Well-Being*

Improved Strength & Composition*

Boosted Energy & Lasting Stamina*

Some preliminary research in rats showed that Pine Pollen could even help with prostate health.6 That is something we hear from many men who start using Pine Pollen, where there are less frequent trips to the bathroom.

Natural Total and Free Testosterone Support

Our Pine Pollen, specifically in the tincture format, has recently been scientifically validated for boosting testosterone and improving quality of life in men 45 and older.*2 See the study published in Annals of Clinical and Medical Case Reports, Pine Pollen Impacts Testosterone-Related Symptoms in Older Men: A Pilot Report.

The follow-up study, Pine Pollen Impacts Hypogonadal Symptoms in Younger Men with Variations in Androgen Levels: Pilot Observations, looked at younger men and revealed even more impressive details about how this herb works.*3

Here, there was a reduction in sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), leading to an increase in free testosterone levels, while total testosterone remained unchanged.* These men saw significant improvements to both quality of life and sexual performance and satisfaction.

If you’re looking for these benefits, then check out our Pine Pollen Tincture specifically. The way we like to describe it is that the tincture is better for directly boosting testosterone, while the powder (and capsules) are more for optimizing the hormones and providing nutrition.* Many customers love taking both!

For men, take a large dose of Pine Pollen mixed in 8 oz. of water before going to bed. While many men report instant results, some get them after a week or month of consistent use in this way.

Nocturnal Penile Tumescence, as the scientists call it, is a natural process that occurs in healthy men. When your hormones are working right, this should be a daily occurrence. Here is what others are saying…

Pine Pollen for Women: Hormone Balance & Beauty*

Women often experience noticeable hormonal imbalances during certain stages in life, such as during menstruation, puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. In addition, some conditions, lifestyle habits, and environmental factors create hormonal imbalances in women.

These imbalances can quickly result in increased moodiness, burnout, weight gain, hair loss, loss of sex drive, and much more…

In general, hormone levels peak in the 20s and then steadily decline. By menopause, women’s hormones are half of what they were at their peak. This imbalance and loss of hormone production can begin to wreak havoc on the body physically, mentally, and emotionally.

“If you were a 58 yo female, you might also be delighted to report noticeable reductions in unwanted facial hair after only less than 4 weeks consuming pine pollen capsules. My energy and stamina, feeling optimal.”

Leslie H. (Verified Customer)

This is where Pine Pollen comes in.* With its dense nutritional makeup loaded with bio-available plant-based hormones, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and more, Pine Pollen for women helps support:*

  • Slowing the aging process*
  • Improved mood and emotional well-being*
  • Sexual drive and performance*
  • Healthy weight and metabolism*
  • Enhanced beauty and inner glow*
  • Energy and stamina*
  • Increased physical performance*

In addition, Pine Pollen for women can then help deal with some of the hormonal difficulties, including in:*7

  • Menstrual irregularities*
  • Hot flashes*
  • Night sweating*
  • Sleep disturbances*

“I’m 51, and I believe I’m experiencing menopause as symptoms have been intense. Super dosed with pine pollen, and it was either placebo effect, or product effect. Either way, my body eased.” Jill D. (Verified Customer)

A lot of attention is given to Pine Pollen for helping with testosterone, but it also supports the anti-aging hormone DHEA (a weak androgen). Read this message from Candace to see for yourself…

“We emailed a little while ago about your Pine Pollen. I started using it beginning of August for extremely low DHEA levels detected in a blood test.

they were so low they weren’t even on the chart (<1) and low progesterone… I was told I had to go on DHEA supplement but because I’m breastfeeding I did not want to do that as it’s not good for the baby and I didn’t want to wean my baby.

I started taking the powder round mid-August and it’s been amazing! I had two sets of blood work since then (for Hypothyroid) and asked them to test DHEA as-well first test came back at 56 (low end of normal) and my last test came back 135 NORMAL 😀 😀 😀

I still think it can raise a little as the normal range goes just over 1000 so I will continue. My progesterone has also balanced out. can’t express my happiness and gratitude! DHEA supplements take over the function of your body making it, Pine Pollen supports your body in making its own!

I couldn’t be happier. I took 1 tablespoon on empty stomach in the morning and recently increased to 2. Thank you so much. My 17-month-old breastfed baby is also doing Great and I noticed absolutely no affects for him with me taking it and nursing. Thank you again for your amazing herbs and assistance in healing!”

Other Pine Pollen Benefits: Energy, Anti-Aging & Immunity

The benefits extend beyond the hormonal effects but extend far across the body. Here we spotlight just a few of the other areas.

Energy & Stamina Boost

Definitely, its effects on the endocrine system can play a role here, but also the wide variety of nutrients comes into play as well. Many people note that they have greater energy than before starting with this best Pine Pollen supplement.*

  • Increased stamina for workouts*
  • Greater recovery*
  • Adaptogenic support*
  • Some research points to an anti-fatigue effect 1*

Anti-Aging & Skin Health

Pine Pollen anti-aging effects include antioxidant and inflammation-modulating properties.*8,9 There is some limited evidence that it even offers neurological protection as well.*10

In China, Pine Pollen has been used for thousands of years; it is considered one of the best beauty tonics for women.*

Several of its compounds support elastin and collagen, which can promote radiant skin, hair growth, and strengthen the nails. The powder can be used topically in addition to internally.*

It’s even been shown to accelerate wound healing.*11

Immune System Support

Pine Pollen is rich in polysaccharides such as arabinogalactan, xylogalacturonan and many others.12,13 Some evidence suggests it helps to regulate intestinal mucosal immunity.*14

One polysaccharide, named PM60-III, seemed to be especially useful in reducing inflammation, and supporting the gut microbiome, reducing harmful bacteria (such as Akkermansia and Aerococcus) and increasing beneficial bacteria (such as lactobacillus).*15

The polysaccharides have been shown to exhibit some anti-viral effects against multiple viruses.*16,17

Pine Pollen immune support is another side benefit that many experience when they take it for something like its hormonal effects.* Those side benefits are much better than side effects!

Liver Support and Detoxification of Environmental Pollutants

Another way using Pine Pollen for hormone balance works is how it may help with various toxins. Our environment is full of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including xenoestrogens (like BPA), antiandrogens (like phthalates) and more. This is from drinking water, pesticides, plastics, skincare and more.*

Research has shown that not only is Pine Pollen protective of the liver (hepatoprotective) but even helped to raise the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) as well as glutathione, the body’s top two antioxidants.*18-20

It’s no wonder one of the early benefits people shared with us is how taking Pine Pollen seemed to lessen alcohol hangovers!

Some other research even showed its ability to protect from the heavy metal cadmium.*21

Pine Pollen Compounds

Why Choose Our Pine Pollen? (Quality & Purity)

Our wild-harvested Pine Pollen is collected from the mountainous regions of China in Yunnan province. We use the Masson Pine (Pinus massoniana), which has been used historically and has the most scientific research behind it.

After harvesting, it is processed at low temperatures to crack the pollen’s cell wall, producing a superior product that is over 99% digestible. Research has shown that cell wall broken pollen more easily releases its nutrients.22

Ours is non-irradiated, but instead steam sterilized. No need for refrigeration.

Store in a cool, dry place and pine pollen will stay potent for up to a year once opened. Refrigeration may extend this time in less-than-ideal climates.

Our Pine Pollen has been tested and found to contain no PDE-5 Inhibitors or Analogues. This commonly used group of added ingredients is typically cut with inferior quality sex herbs, and these are the active ingredients in the little blue pill and various related drugs. You won’t find our Pine Pollen at Whole Foods.

Despite coming from China, it passes our more stringent heavy metal standards, this is far stricter than most companies use. It has been shown to be free of pesticides, glyphosate, GMOs, and more. This is why many consider it the best Pine Pollen supplement compared to competitors.

For more info, review our extensive lab analysis of Pine Pollen in the lab results tab at the top of the page.

Again, our Pine Pollen is the only scientifically vetted for use in humans on the market.

How to Take Pine Pollen (Dosage & Timing)

It is best to take Pine Pollen twice per day. Once in the morning and once in either the afternoon or evening. This helps to support your hormones, which modulate throughout the day.

How to Take Pine Pollen Powder

The recommended dose of pine pollen powder is ½ to 1 teaspoon twice per day. Many people get significant benefits with this dose.

Let it dissolve in your mouth to increase the chance of instant digestion and partial absorption of phytoandrogens right into your bloodstream. This should provide the best possible anabolic effect with pine pollen powder.

Larger doses recommended by Chinese Medicine makes sense when one sees the number of nutrients involved. Some people take up to three tablespoons of Pine Pollen powder per day.

How to Take Pine Pollen Capsules

The recommended dosage is 3 capsules twice per day (.43 Grams per Capsule). Many people get significant benefits with this dose. Increase the dosage as you see fit.

The capsules themselves are made of pullulan, which is produced from starch by the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans. It is a natural polysaccharide of non-animal origin. So they’re vegan and animal-free, non-GMO, and gluten-free.

Pine Pollen Side Effects & Safety

While Pine Pollen is safe for most users, individual reactions can vary, and some people may experience side effects. Here are some of the most commonly reported Pine Pollen side effects:

  1. Allergic Reactions: Although Pine Pollen is considered to be less allergenic than other types of pollen, it can still trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Those with pollen allergies may experience symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes. We recommend you take a small initial dose to make sure it doesn’t trigger allergies.
  2. Gastrointestinal Issues: For some people, Pine Pollen can cause digestive discomfort. Common symptoms include bloating, gas, or an upset stomach, especially when taken in higher doses.
  3. Drug Interactions: Pine Pollen may interact with medications, especially those that regulate hormones. It’s crucial to consult a healthcare provider if you are taking any hormone-related medications.
  4. The phytoandrogen content may possibly pose a risk for individuals with hormone-sensitive conditions, such as prostate cancer or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It’s essential to seek medical advice if you have any known hormone-sensitive health issues before beginning Pine Pollen supplementation.

FAQ

Details about Pine Pollen:

Pine pollen is literally the pollen of pine trees.
No. In fact, bees have nothing to do with it.
While the powder is seen more as a food, while still having the hormonal support, pine pollen tincture has more of a direct androgenic effect. This is great for men seeking to help restore proper youthful levels. Lots more detail available in this article here.
Quality:
Pinus massonia, also known as the Chinese Oil Pine or Chinese Pine.
No, it is not certified organic as that is an expensive and difficult process. But truthfully this isn’t all that important because our pine pollen comes from pristine areas where it is wildcrafted. No one bothers spraying chemicals onto pine trees.
No, ours is steam treated in order to handle the microbes. If this is not done, pine pollen comes in with a very high aerobic platelet count.
No! But most pine pollen is. If another company doesn’t talk about this, then chances are it is irradiated. Instead of doing so, and damaging the DNA present, we steam treat our pine pollen.
Herbs do not “go bad” generally as long as they are stored properly. If you store your herbs in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, in an airtight container they may last up to 2 years. Herbs may lose potency over time but if kept properly will retain most of their benefits.
China, as with every other commercial supplier of pine pollen. This is the only place that harvests pine pollen at scale, at least so far.
Yes. It gets a C grade, which is still quite good. You can see a copy of our lab analysis here.
In our opinion the extracts of pine pollen are not very good. If you want more potency go with a tincture, otherwise, stick to the regular powder.
We can’t speak to every single Pine Pollen brand out there, but we know we have good stuff. If you’re out there making comparisons, check for the following: being non-irradiated, rigorously tested for heavy metals and pharmaceutical drugs like how we test ours.
How to take pine pollen powder:
“]There are several different methods.

  • Some people just put the powder into their mouth and then swallow it.
  • Mix into water
  • Mix into any liquid or a smoothie
  • Sprinkle it on top of a salad or other foods[/su_spoiler]

While you can eat Pine Pollen straight, it is a fine powder so becomes a bit of a choking hazard. It is generally recommended to mix it into drinks or sprinkle it on top of foods rather than consuming is straight.
Anytime. Some people like to take it along with natural testosterone production like in the morning and after workouts. It is also great to take before workouts and at night time before bed. For best results take pine pollen 2-3 different times per day instead of all at once.
Both work. Pine pollen is a whole food itself so it can mix with other foods, or it can be taken solo.
Yes, you can.
While we recommend cycling the tincture we do not feel that it is necessary to cycle the powder as it is more food-like.
Effects:
It is a great source of many different micronutrients including vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and more. The main thing it is taken for is the phyto-androgens, both human and plant hormones, that work to assist the endocrine system.
This is a possibility. Additional herbs like nettle root or foods like cruciferous vegetables can help to limit aromatization. Also work to limit excessive body fat, as adipose tissue creates more of the aromatase enzyme.
Pine pollen is often used by athletes for its broad nutritional profile and its traditional reputation for supporting energy, vitality, and overall performance. Because maintaining healthy hormone balance is important for muscle development and body composition, many people incorporate pine pollen into their fitness routines. Those looking for a stronger experience often choose the tincture, which offers a more concentrated form. Individual responses vary.
Yes. Pine pollen powder is really more of a food than anything else. It is safe for anyone to consume in powdered form (except for those who have pine pollen allergies). We would only recommend the tinctures to men over 30 years of age though.
Please try at least a few days in a row. You could even try a higher dose. Due to the complex nature of the human body, we can’t guarantee it will work for everyone. You may need something different than what is available in pine pollen. For some people it doesn’t help with this effect but does bring many other positive benefits. Of course, if you’d like to send back the unused portion of the pine pollen and let us know we’re happy to refund your money.
Side Effects:
Unfortunately, a small percentage of people have a pine pollen allergy. This is not a dangerous allergy, like peanuts for some, but can cause discomfort. When you get pine pollen it is best to take a small dose, like 1/4 teaspoon, and wait a few hours. If you have any common symptoms of allergic reactions it may not be the best herbal supplement for you. Some people have reported that while they have a pine pollen allergy to the powder, in a tincture form they do fine.
Combinations with Other Herbs:
Yes. If you want even more powerful hormonal support this is a great way to go. Beware that taking both tongkat ali and pine pollen tincture at the same time can be too strong for some people.
Yes, this is a great combination. Pine pollen is more yang in nature, while nettle root is more yin. This combination may give an even more well-rounded hormonal support. That is why both are contained in our Men’s Hormone Packages.
Not that we are aware of.
Pine Pollen Capsules:
Non-irradiated, wild-harvested Pinus massoniana pollen, Silica.
They are made from pullulan, which is manufactured by natural fermentation of plant starches. This makes it 100% natural unlike other brands capsules.
Yes.
Yes.
