Lion’s Mane Mushroom Delivers Daily Neuro-Nourishment For
Memory, Focus, And Long-Term Brain Resilience*
With Unique Compounds That Cross the Blood-Brain Barrier
and Support Nerve Growth Factor and BDNF*

Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is an edible mushroom traditionally used to support digestion and overall vitality.* But what makes it unique from other mushrooms is how it specifically targets the brain as a nervine trophorestorative.* What that means is that Lion’s Mane contains specific compounds that support the body’s own neurotrophic signaling tied to memory, learning, and cognitive performance.*1-3
Over the last decade, Lion’s Mane has become a go-to functional mushroom for people who want a smarter foundation for focus and long-term brain resilience.*
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“I tested the effectiveness of lions mane and cannot deny its splendid results. I remember things much more quickly, and I am able to follow details in my work easily. Before I tried LEH’s brand, I thought I was slipping away mentally in a slow, downward trend. I do believe that Lions Mane has reversed that trend and I sense a gradual improvement every day. I intend to keep myself well supplied!”

Your Brain Is Constantly Adapting To Stress & Toxicity
Your brain is not static. It remodels itself based on what you repeatedly expose it to.
Rampant chronic environmental toxins. Long work days. Fragmented sleep. Chronic low-grade stress. Digital overload. Constant inflammatory responses from modern food and living. The slow wear-and-tear of time.
Memory that isn’t as crisp, words that stumble, focus that takes longer to lock in, mental stamina that fades faster than it used to…
Many “brain boosters” try to override this with stimulation like jacking you up on caffeine. Instead, what you want is support for the underlying systems the brain uses to maintain performance.

The “Mushroom for the Brain” that Supports Growth, Resilience, and Neuroplasticity Signals*
Lion’s Mane stands apart from other functional mushrooms because of how it supports the biology your nervous system uses to stay adaptable.*
Researchers describe Lion’s Mane as neurotrophic, meaning it supports the growth and maintenance of nerve cells, which are deeply involved in learning, memory, and healthy neural function.*1-3

In plain terms, neuroplasticity is your brain’s ability to form new connections, strengthen useful ones, and stay flexible under stress. Every single day, your nervous system works to stay on top of life, whatever the demands are.

What Makes Lion’s Mane Different? Hericenones And Erinacines
Lion’s Mane is specific to the nervous system because it contains two specific compound families that have repeatedly shown neurotrophic activity in research: hericenones and erinacines.*
- Support Neurotrophin Signaling (NGF / BDNF Pathways) – Researchers have found Lion’s Mane compounds can support NGF and BDNF-related pathways, which are central to how neurons survive, communicate, and form new connections.*1-3
- Support “Helper Cells” That Run Brain Repair – Some Lion’s Mane compounds support NGF via glial cells, which are nervous system helper cells that assist in regulating repair, maintenance, and growth-factor production.*1-2
- Cross the Blood-Brain Barrier – Not everything gets access to the brain. Yet, some erinacines and hericenones have been shown in research to cross the BBB, allowing for real effects in the brain.*1-3
- Support Neurite Outgrowth and Pro-Survival Pathways – Beyond “growth factors,” erinacines in particular have been studied for supporting neurite outgrowth (the extension of neuron “branches”) and for shifting cellular signaling (like Nrf2) toward pro-survival and anti-stress pathways.*2
- AChE Inhibition for Learning and Memory Support – Hericenone B has shown potential acetylcholinesterase inhibition, which breaks down acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter heavily involved in attention, learning, and memory.*1
While hericenones and erinacines are the stars, there are even more beneficial compounds in this mushroom. For example, ergothioneine, a special amino acid with potent antioxidant properties, has been shown to reduce oxidative stress in neuronal cells.*3

Another example is that some of the polysaccharides modulate calcium exchange, which can reduce excitotoxicity in neurons, helping to keep the nerve cells healthy.*3 Lion’s Mane is also rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6 which are all important for the nervous system support.*3
These are just a few of the 102 compounds research has identified in Lion’s Mane Mushrooms, some of which are pictured here.4
NGF And BDNF: Like Fertilizer For Neurons
Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) are part of a family of proteins called neurotrophins. These are signals that help neurons survive, maintain themselves, and form stronger connections over time. These signals are deeply tied to:
- Memory formation
- Memory recall
- Learning
- Mental flexibility
- Synaptic plasticity
- Mood stability
- Stress resilience
A useful way to think about it is that NGF/BDNF are like fertilizer and maintenance signals for your neural network. And hericenones and erinacines have both been studied to help support these factors.*

Crossing the Blood–Brain Barrier

The brain is protected by a tight security system called the blood–brain barrier (BBB). It filters what can enter brain tissue, which is why plenty of “brain supplements” never actually reach the place they’re supposed to support.
What makes Lion’s Mane stand out is that research suggests certain hericenones and erinacines can cross the BBB, meaning they may reach brain-relevant tissue instead of acting only in the body’s periphery.*1-3
This means Lion’s Mane may have a more credible “pathway to impact” than most nootropic ingredients because at least some of its bioactives appear capable of influencing pathways connected to memory, learning, and mood regulation.*
Clinically Studied Support For Memory And Speed Of Performance
Lion’s Mane has several human clinical trials suggesting measurable benefits in various means of cognition.

- In older adults, Lion’s Mane has been studied for memory and overall cognitive performance, with improvements showing up during the supplementation period over 49 weeks.*5
- A 12-week placebo-controlled trial saw improvements in cognition, including attention, calculation, recall, language, and orientation.*6
- Another study of 50 to 80-year-old men and women also saw improvements in cognition.*7
- In younger, healthy adults, a single dose was associated with faster performance on a timed cognitive task within about an hour, and longer daily use showed a trend toward reduced perceived stress.*8
- Another study in healthy adults saw improvements in reaction time, working-memory-related performance, and perceptions of happiness within a one to two hour window of taking Lion’s Mane.*9
Gut–Brain Support: Beneficial Microbes And Short-Chain Fatty Acids
Historically used to help support gastrointestinal health, research on Lion’s Mane Mushroom is now backing that up.*4 With antioxidant and healthy inflammation-modulating properties, this can offer gastroprotective properties.*
“I am a massive fan of this versatile nootropic, digestion aid and overall well being this mushroom has to offer. First of all I have noticed that this has tremendously helped RID of my heartburn. Secondly, it aids in concentration and information processing, as well as memory! This is a very safe nootropic for users wishing to improve their brain power and retention.” – Lucus
Recent research has shown that Lion’s Mane polysaccharides, including beta-glucans, can support the body in shifting the gut microbiome towards more beneficial strains and less toxic ones, including H. pylori.*13 This matters not just for the gut, but for the brain too.
In an 8-week double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot trial in older adults using a Lion’s Mane supplement showed a significant increase in gut microbiota diversity.*14 That diversity increase was positively correlated with neuropeptide Y, a stress-resilience–linked neuropeptide.*
These beneficial bacteria produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFA).* SCFAs matter for the brain because they’re one of the clearest molecular links in the gut–brain axis.* SCFAs can cross the blood–brain barrier or act through the vagus nerve, influencing neural signaling pathways involved in mood, cognition, and healthy inflammatory response in the brain.*1,13
Organic Fruiting Bodies, Dual Extracted, And Concentrated 8:1
Not all Lion’s Mane products are created equal.
Ours starts with USDA-certified organic Lion’s Mane fruiting bodies (the actual mushroom), not grain-grown mycelium. These are grown on wood in greenhouses with natural light, fresh air, and using organic methods. Fruiting bodies are where many of Lion’s Mane’s hericenones are concentrated. While mycelium is richer in ericacines overall, several of these, notably erinacines A and B, are also found in the fruiting bodies.10
After harvesting, next comes extraction. Some of its most valuable constituents are water-soluble (like the beta-glucan polysaccharides), while others extract more effectively in alcohol (terpenoids). That’s why we use a dual extraction to capture a broader spectrum of compounds rather than leaving key fractions behind.
This extract is guaranteed to have at least 15% beta-glucans, though one batch had 23.9%. This is not standardized, but has this guaranteed minimum. As this is a natural product, some variation is to be expected.

Erinacines and hericenones have been analytically measured across many commercial products, and the results show extremely significant variability across samples.16 We haven’t yet measured the amounts of these compounds in our extract.
But we know it’s strong. This is an 8:1 concentrate, meaning it takes eight parts raw mushroom to produce one part extract. This is far stronger than the vast majority of other Lion’s Mane supplements on the market. That is also why it is priced higher for a smaller amount.
Our current extract is measured at our very best Grade A – Excellent heavy metal rating, meaning you get all the benefits without the risk of brain-taxing heavy metals. Research points to mycelium being higher in heavy metals than fruiting bodies.4

Single Use Benefits vs. Consistent Long-Term Daily Use
There are two different patterns in human research.
1) Single-Dose for Short-Term Performance Effects – Some of the research showed benefits from just a single dose of Lion’s Mane for some cognitive tasks.*8,9 That likely also means that some people will be able to feel the benefits right away.
2) Ongoing foundational support – Most of the research shows the best benefit from continued daily use of Lion’s Mane. The longest studies have gone almost a year in duration. In doing this the benefits will slowly build over time.
Important to note is that benefits tend to drop off after the Lion’s Mane is discontinued.7 Some people notice how well it was working for them after they stop taking it, because it can act as a slow build but stopping creates a stronger contrast effect.
I also have a hypothesis that the worse shape your brain is in the more you’ll feel the impact from Lion’s Mane, even with that first dose.
“I suffer some confusion from a frontal lobe injury. Since the use of Lion’s Mane I have been able to hold my mental acuity together more easily. It comes in a great looking package and lasts a long time. I like mine in my morning coffee.” – Stephen S.
Safety And Side Effects: What To Know Before You Start
Lion’s Mane is generally well-tolerated in human studies. Toxicity studies in animals have not found any dose that is considered toxic.4
The most common side effect is stomach discomfort, which may result from a change in the microbiota and consumption of fibers. Other possible side effects are diarrhea, skin rash, and headache, but even these are quite rare.1
Make Lion’s Mane Your Daily Brain Ritual
If you want a smarter daily nootropic, don’t pick the one that simply revs you up for an hour, jacking you up with more caffeine. Pick the one built around neurotrophic biology, around the pathways tied to how your brain adapts, repairs, and stays sharp over time.*
Lion’s Mane gives your nervous system the kind of steady input it can actually use, supporting NGF and BDNF pathways that are linked to memory, learning, focus, and long-term brain resilience.*
So if you’re ready to stop chasing quick hits and start building a stronger baseline, add Lion’s Mane to your daily routine.*
