The following comments and recipe comes from a great customer of ours, Daniel.
It seems like a lot of your customers fuss and muss over the taste of Lost Empire Herbs. This will not be the first contrarian point of view I’ve expressed. I rather like the taste of the several LEH. Now don’t misunderstand me, I am not saying I enjoy them like someone who takes a bite of ice-cream and can’t quit it until they have consumed an entire pint. I like the taste in the suggested serving portions on the herb packages (powder alone, or mixed in some warm to hotish water). I have even come to like the taste of a small dose of Tongkat Ali dissolving under my tongue. My wife says of me “You like strong taste”. Now in case this reveal might give you the idea my mouth and juicy sweet things have no magnetic attraction, let me dispel that idea. As a kid, when it came to my mom’s pineapple upside down cake or strawberry cake, I was like a dog on a bone. To this day I find it hard to resist chocolate and mint or some cool ripe watermelon!
So about now, you may be asking yourself, why am I telling you this. This is an introduction to what I call my sweetish taste of longevity cocktail!
Awhile back, I read somewhere that the rind of watermelon is nutritious and when consumed can stimulate an increase of testosterone production. I have not researched that but the idea stuck, and late this summer, I decided to experiment combining some of my favorite LEH, with organic watermelon, ginseng tea, and a dash of organic unsweetened almond milk. The result, something to shake up the pallet of almost any skeptic.
I put medium size chunks of watermelon rind and watermelon (about a 75/25% ratio*) in a blender, with a little ginseng tea and blend it until it is pulverized and liquid. I then add to that powdered Ashwagandha, He-Shou-Wu, Cistanche, Shilajit, Pine Pollen, Sea Buckthorn, Black Ant, and a dash or two of organic unsweetened almond milk. When blended I sip it like it was desert but it nourishes me as a meal.
*The amount of pre-blended watermelon I use is the amount it takes to fill the serving size I aim to drink at one time. When I add the powders and liquids before blending they drop into the spaces between the chunks but I get more foam when I blend em. So I prefer a two step blend.
Want even more sweetness and a dash of smoky flavor? Add a few dried goji berry and longan or lychee berry (fresh or dried).
The result for me is an earthy, sweetish, creamy, nutritious, energizing deliciousness.
All the Best
DanielBTW: I’ve enjoyed this with other LEHs too, for example the Spartan Formula.
That’s sounds worth trying to me. Can’t wait til summer when watermelon is back in season.
Just another example of the creativity you can have in consuming herbs.
There are many ways you can mask, blunt, transform, and encourage flavors using our many herbs and other foods too.
