Fact: Diets are not sustainable.
To go from “on” a diet to “off”, and on again… is an odd way of going about things.
Instead, I like to think in terms of eating habits.
- What do you habitually eat?
- What to you habitually not eat?
- This also includes your psychological habits of thinking/feeling about food too.
Personally, fast food isn’t even on the list of possibilities of things I eat anymore. Many years back it, was an occasional thing. Further years back, it was a several times per week habit.
Nowadays, there are things (such as chips) that may not be the healthiest option that I do eat from time to time. It’s one of my looser habits of eating that is not necessarily the best. I make no claims to perfection…though some of us are closer than others ?
And there are good eating habits too. Eating a large number of veggies every day is a pretty solid habit for me, that does serve my health. Although there are times when I get away from it (like when traveling sometimes), as a habit, I snap right back into it.
Virtually everything I eat at home is organic or better! I didn’t start off this way but built up the habit over time.
To improve your eating habits, think of adding in small new good habits over time. And work on letting go of bad eating habits over time.
This way, in the long term, and I’m talking years sometimes, you’ll have eating habits that ‘automagically’ support you being at exactly the weight you want to be at.

Our top pick of the herbs available for supporting a healthy weight is gynostemma, for a variety of reasons.
First of all, this is something you brew into a tea (technically, an infusion as its not related to the tea plant), at least in the form we provide it in. But unlike coffee or black/green/white tea, it doesn’t have any caffeine. While caffeine has it’s uses, hydrating the body isn’t one of them. Therefore, by drinking gynostemma throughout the day it will support your body being better hydrated which makes everything run better. But you could just drink water for that, so let’s move onto the interesting and unique benefits of gynostemma.
Gynostemma is full of ginsenosides, which are some of the saponins also found inside ginseng. Because ginseng is so popular it drives the price up for good quality stuff (while most of what is on the market is crap. Hint: if you’re getting ginseng from a 7-11 or gas station, it’s not good!). Yet, because it is comparatively unknown, gynostemma has been called ‘cheap ginseng’ for this purpose, as you can get many of the benefits at a fraction of the cost. These help provide some of the adaptogenic effects that we won’t even address here.
In addition, gynostemma also has gypenosides which are responsible for other functions including helping normalize insulin signaling. In four weeks of receiving tea, compared to a placebo control group, those having the gynostemma tea reduced glucose levels and improved insulin sensitivity. 
Other trials have shown it has helped in fat loss. Some of the compounds inside, including damulins A and B, activate AMPK (5′ adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase). AMPK is responsible for increasing fat metabolism while slowing fat synthesis. In layman’s term it increases your use of fat stores, while causing less to be stored. 
In one double-blind placebo-controlled trial of 80 obese men and women, those on gynostemma saw significant decreases in weight, body fat and BMI. Here they used actiponin™, an extract of gynostemma which has those damulins in it. 
In another single-blind placebo-controlled trial, 56 people with nonalcoholic fatty liver where investigated for four months. The group on the gynostemma extract saw significant differences in BMI, triglycerides, insulin and fatty liver scores. 
Overall, the studies on this are still sparse, but so far it’s looking good. Remember, this is going to be at max a 10% change, and likely less. But if you make drinking gynostemma tea a new habit that you do along with all the other basics, it can very likely help.

Next up in our list of herbs which can help shed fat is the destroyer of weakness and the conqueror of mountains, shilajit.
Preliminary research shows that the fulvic acids, humic acids, and dibenzo-α-pyrones it contains increase mitochondria respiration.[5,6] If you’re not familiar with them, mitochondria are the powerhouses inside all of your cells, which are responsible for churning out ATP, the energy molecule that drives everything we do.
Many people report being able to get by, meaning having ample energy, while eating less food when they consume shilajit.
With shilajit we also see action on insulin and blood sugar levels. Once again, there is only preliminary research, such as that done on rats, but in one study showed a blood glucose lowering effect, as well as benefits to the lipid profile. 
Shilajit brings even more benefits. It is rich in trace minerals which many diets are very deficient in. These minerals have many functions within the human body, only some of which are known. And if you don’t have the minerals present, the body simply can’t function at an optimal level. It is certain that some such functions have to do with fat metabolism.
And shilajit is great for detoxification. The fulvic and humic acids are known heavy metal chelators. As heavy metals can have disruptive effects on the human physiology, this can be another helpful step.
Which one is better, resin or powder? Unfortunately, we can’t give you a definitive answer. Different customers of ours have like each option for these purposes. That being said, I will mention that mixing a teaspoon or two of powdered shilajit into water and sipping on this throughout the day is an excellent weight loss strategy to use.

Triphala is an Ayurvedic formula of three different fruits: amalaki, haritaki, and bhibitaki. It has stood the test of time and is considered one of the most valuable herbal preparations in the world.

It is also useful to note that in Ayurveda shilajit and triphala are often combined.
Dosage for Each Herb:
Gynostemma Tea: Steep 1 gram per 6 ounces of water
Triphala Powder: 1 teaspoon daily or 1 teaspoon added to evening cup of gynostemma tea
Shilajit Powder: Minimum dose is 1 gram per day (1/2 teaspoon)
Appetite and Craving Control
This is a roundabout way in which herbs for weight loss can help, through the mitigating of cravings or the lowering of appetite.
I’m reminded of a story from a friend of mine who took Athena Women’s Formula. She wrote:

Why does this occur?
