He Shou Wu is something most people haven’t heard of yet, but it’s actually one of the most powerful anti-aging herbs in Chinese medicine. It is known as one of the best kidney fortifiers, but that doesn’t mean it only helps the kidneys. In Chinese medicine the kidneys are the storage of the Jing energy.
If the Jing is strong, you’ll become stronger in everything you do. It works the other way around too, so if your Jing is depleted from stress or other factors and you run out of it – you die.
I like to think of it not as an actual physical substance but a metaphor for what’s going on in the body. It has to do with the bone marrow. It has to do with the adrenals. It has to do with the hormones. It has to do with the DNA. It has to do with the blood. It’s not any one of those things, but part of the action of them all.
Since He Shou Wu is the best herb for replenishing this energy, we included it in our Phoenix formula along with Pine Pollen, Ant Extract and Shilajit, which also another powerful Jing substance.
Megadosing He Shou Wu?
You might want to megadose on He Shou Wu if you’d like to truly be deeply restored. He Shou Wu is very specific in this manner since it doesn’t have LD50, which is the median lethal dose. It’s a measurement of toxicity for medicines that represents the dose required to kill fifty percent of animal test subjects. He Shou Wu doesn’t have LD50. This means that it’s extremely safe to use.
Our recommended standard dosage for he shou wu is 1/2 to 1 teaspoon twice per day. That is enough for most people, but some might want to megadose for more benefits. This doesn’t have to be your standard daily dose, but try it out and see how you feel. Just mix a big dose into water or and down it, or take it with coffee, smoothies or anything else you might want.
In the video here I did about 3 tablespoons which is a large amount. Recently, I’ve been taking about one tablespoon each day as part of an experiment and I feel great.
For best results with he shou wu, you’ll want to take it regularly, whether with smaller doses or some larger ones.
Another popular benefit He Shou Wu is famous for, is the role it plays in restoring natural hair color. If you’re looking for that you might give a megadose a try.

I would really like to buy this in larger package.. So is this the same as FO-TI?
It is commonly known as Foti, though technically that’s from an error made a long time ago. We only sell the 100 gram bags at this time.
Hi there,
I was wondering if you offer He Shou Wu in capsule form. I tend to prefer the capsule form to the powdered form for my herbs, so would be nice to have this in capsule form too. Do let me know.
Thnx
M
Unfortunately, we do not offer He Shou Wu in capsules at this time. You can find that from other companies or you can encapsulate it yourself: https://lostempireherbs.com/encapsulate-powdered-herbs/
I would be interested in a megadose package.
Peter Ragnar sent me :) gonna look to share this with my peeps too, great selection of product.
What would be the absolute MAX dose of this herb? Would 4-6 tablespoons per day be over the top too much? I am very interested in trying out He Shou Wu.. But I’d like to megadose to get the most benefits possible.
That is actually hard to determine as it is different for each person.
4tbs is quite a large dose – I would suggest starting at 1/2 tbs and working your way up from there.
He Shou Wu can cause some stomach problems (as it is a laxative) so it is usually a good idea to start small and work your way up.
If you have more questions you can email us at [email protected]
I would be interested in a megadose package of he shou WI
We’ll look into offering that in the future. For now just grab a few bags!
So what is your opinion on the ANTI- DHT effects of this herb?
I do not believe he shou wu to be anti-DHT. If you have solid references that say it is please do share, but I think that the idea that it can help with hair loss, which in some ways has to do with DHT, led people to believe it must reduce 5-alpha reductase. Nothing I’ve seen indicates this.
This is a little complicated to read but it seems as though that is what is being implied- https://www.google.com/patents/US7927631
Yeah that is complicated…but what I gathered from reading through it is that they’re working with different combinations of herbs and compounds. These include he shou wu and also 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like beta-sitosterol. But no where in there did I see it say that he shou wu was a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor itself.
I’ve been taking He Shou Wu awhile now (at least over a year) and it’s the herb that I (and my husband) have observed a quite noticeable difference. I had experienced several phases of my loosing my hair quite severely. After reading about some of the more natural hair products available they all seemed to have He Shou Wu. Around the same time, I discovered Lost Empire Herbs, and noticed they offered He Shou Wu and read how L.E.H. takes such precision and effort to provide only top notch quality herbs so I ordered the He Shou Wu and to my surprise, my hair quit falling out! Not only was I so thankful but my husband commented months later he noticed also and he now is taking some of the L.E. herbs. Thank you Lost Empire for all you do to provide such quality, safe and helpful alternatives to our lives!
That’s awesome Kim! Do you mind if we use this as a review on our he shou wu page?
He shou wu is the one herb I don’t ever want to run out of, signed me on the megadose package.
Are you planning on providing a megodose package of He Shou Wu, just like the pine pollen megadose package?
Not at this time, but if there’s enough demand for it, sure we could.
