Everybody gets lost at some point.
I am not referring to being lost in a place of course. Everyone does that of course. More, I mean, lost in time. We all fall into ruts, and these ruts can bring us to question just what the hell we are doing with this life.
Many of us will become despondent and depressed in those moments. Feeling as if with no direction, there is no point.
I, myself, have struggled with this for about 2/3’s of my existence on this planet (rough calculations says 20 of my just about 34 years).
Now, this is an entirely normal process we humans go through, and I would contend that it is necessary to being human! Especially to being a happy modern human.
It makes us ask deep, sometimes bottomless questions about our path. It pushes us to change things we would happily keep the same forever and ever, even if life as it is, is subconsciously making us miserable. Afterall, all the distractions on tap nowadays; drugs, sports, porn, sex, money, food, business, music, festivals, social media, computers, tv, movies, books, working out, food, on and on the list goes. Basically, anything that you can use to prevent you from examining yourself makes it easy to avoid the feeling of being lost.
For those that linger in these modes, that somehow can’t get the distractions to distract like they once did, decisions eventually must be made. That is where I see a lot of absolute human potential in its first beginnings.
That is where what some might term, “success,” is born. We must realize the life we want and then we go and get it. Simple as can be, right?
Doesn’t really happen overnight though.
This whole process, I see as a form of revenge. That is self-revenge: To prove to yourself that you are worthy of the life you have. Not to waste it on the distractions around us which for the most part, even while good-intention, always eventually have the potential to hold us back.
They are meant to, as this is what life is all about: struggles that must be overcome or absorbed into our being.
What I could have said at the beginning of this is that to find truly life-defining things in this world requires us to lose our way from time to time.
And that isn’t a bad thing at all.
I did not want to talk about herbs (though plenty of them help with this process…or kick start it). I just wanted to give a little reminder that whatever situation we may be in, be grateful for it. Within that situation lies the seeds of distraction or the seeds of a new beginning.
It is up to us to decide which.
Alright, fine, I will mention some herbs that can and have helped me, personally, deal with this. Surprisingly, Maca is good for depression, where feeling lost can and often does lead.
More than anything though, I would point to certain herbs that can actually cause you to get lost. As I said, this isn’t a bad thing. They can only do this though if the impulse is already deep within us. Reishi and Gotu Kola are particularly great at ‘awakening’ us to discrepancies in our lives. It can be easy to think of it as a spiritual detox. Whether you believe in spirit as a real thing or not, the spirit of who you are as a person lies in your life’s work, whatever you choose that to be.
Become better, get lost.
