Boosting Your Brain Power: 8 Herbs That Sharpen the Mind

July 30, 2017 by Vikram Taruga 13 Comments

When people talk about herbs, they discuss its overall health benefits. They speak about how it keeps you fit, and how it helps fend off some diseases. But did you know that there are other aspects of your life that can be improved by herbs?

There are some herbs that bring benefits to the brain. These powerful herbs can help sharpen your mind, helping you accomplish daily tasks that require memory and perfect retention.

If you are having difficulty keeping track of people, places, activities, and appointments, you’ll find this list quite convenient. Whether you’re suffering from memory loss, or simply get distracted a lot, these herbs can help you address the problem. We are harnessing nature’s power to bring you some natural remedies that boost your brain power.

Table of Contents

  • 1 1. Ginkgo Leaf
  • 2 2. Korean Ginseng
  • 3 3. Maca
  • 4 4. Dragon’s Blood
  • 5 5. Sage
  • 6 6. Bacopa
  • 7 7. Barley Grass
  • 8 8. Brahmi

1. Ginkgo Leaf

Known as one of the oldest living species of trees, it has been used in Chinese medicine for a long time. For its many benefits, this herb is the most extensively studied today. It is known to improve blood circulation by thinning the blood. This allows oxygen to flow more freely into the brain.

If you want to enhance your mental performance, this herb can help give you the boost you need. It contains flavonoids and terpenoids that neutralize free radicals, preventing damage caused by them.

Often taken as a supplement, ginkgo leaves have been shown to help improve memory in patients with dementia.

2. Korean Ginseng

Korean Ginseng, like ginkgo leaves, has been used in China for centuries to treat several diseases. It so happens that this herb also helps fight memory loss caused by aging. It has also been shown to help in recovering the memory of stroke patients that suffer from dementia.

It also helps eliminate headaches and insomnia, leading to improved concentration. What’s great about this herb is that it is very widespread, and you’ll find plenty of organic teas containing it.

3. Maca

Extremely high in antioxidants, this Peruvian root easily nabs a spot on this list for improving cognitive functions. Maca has an indirect relationship with the mind, as it provides energy to the body, thereby allowing the brain to focus on tasks more easily.

The recommended intake of maca root powder is 2,000 mg or 1 teaspoon per day.

4. Dragon’s Blood

Way more uncommon compared to Korean ginseng, Dragon’s blood isn’t any less effective. It is known for treating tuberculosis, wounds, and sore throats. But did you know that this plant’s blood-red sap is also used for protecting the brain from memory loss?

The sap has a unique chemical structure that contains antioxidants and alkaloids that fight enzymes that break down vital compounds utilized by the brain. By stopping these enzymes, this herb decreases the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. The recommended daily dose is only ½ oz, so keep that in mind if you want to make use of this herb’s benefits.

5. Sage

This next herb does not turn you into an actual sage, as cool as that may be. But if you want to enhance your ability to recall important facts, it’s definitely good for you. Studies show that certain chemicals found in sage help with slowing down the depletion of neurons. By protecting these cholinergic and noncholinergic neurons, it keeps you from having a build-up of so-called “amyloid plaques” that are one of the causes of Alzheimer’s.

Though it’s not true that sage causes immortality, it still provides you with the protection your mind needs to remember a life well lived.

6. Bacopa

Bacopa is an Indian herb that is commonly used to enhance memory. What makes it unique is that it also facilitates better concentration and learning. Chemicals within the plant protect one part of your brain known as the hippocampus. By keeping this part safe, you can be sure that all your nerve impulses are being received by your brain properly.

7. Barley Grass

One of the more familiar herbs on this list is barley grass. It is well-known for its share of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, and enzymes. This herb supports all aspects of health and well-being, including your mental health. So if you feel like grabbing an all-in-one supplement, barley grass isn’t such a bad idea.

8. Brahmi

A water-loving herb that is perfect for improving memory and overall mental function, Brahmi is something you’d want as a supplement if you’re trying to boost brain power. Additionally, it helps fight anxiety and depression. If you’re feeling a bit anxious, or if you want to help bring color back into your life emotionally, this is an excellent choice.

Brahmi contains various chemicals that aid neurotransmitters in the brain. This amazing herb helps improve your overall mood and cognitive process.

The mind is a wonderful thing, and it needs as much care as the rest of your body. There’s no harm in trying one or two of these herbs to see what will work for you.

Again, this was a guest article talking about 8 different herbs to boost the mind. We have no plans to make this though we do sell some of the herbs mentioned. We are working on a mental formula but are not sure how long it will be before it is done.
